Rothwell Town 5 - 1 Guiseley

Murray in a Hurry to shoot down Guiseley

Town looked to make it three in a row against Guiseley and started brightly. Jacob Murray in goal hadn’t been near the ball when the first goal hit the back of the oppositions net. Arnie Dooner broke well through a
static defence before releasing to Sam Pears who calmly put the ball past the keeper. Sam Pears was again involved 2 minutes later with a wonderful defence splitting ball through to Sam Mulvaney but his shot was well stopped by the
keeper. Guiseley rarely threatened, and any attacks were quickly stopped by a tight defence. Rothwell continued to threaten and Sam Mulvaney was unlucky when an Arnie cross bobbled awkwardly as he was about to shoot. Arnie Dooner then won a corner which was delivered brilliantly by Kai. Sam Pears made a darting run
and met the ball squarely with his head and was unlucky to see the ball flash wide. Despite continued pressure the second goal proved difficult to score until 5 minutes from time when Sam Van Den Brielle won the ball in the midfield and played it into Sam Mulvaney who controlled first time in the area and was fouled by the visiting defender. Sam Pears stepped up to put the ball past the keeper. At 2 – 1 and the defence rarely under significant pressure Guiseley shocked the home team when a corner was only partially cleared and brilliant volleyed back in from just inside the area. At half time the score stood at 2 – 1 and with Rothwell Towns Charles Rice team short on players Liam King answered the call and was whisked away. Jacob Murray who had not been much more than a
spectator for most of the first half stepped into the space vacated by Liam and within two minutes found himself on the score sheet. Sam Pears again winning the ball in the area and releasing to Jacob who made sure of his goal with a
strong finish. Guiseley almost got back into the game after a long ball took an awkward bounce, but luck was with the keeper as the ball hit the underside of the bar and back into his arms. It was another Kai corner that was finished by Arnie that stretched the goal difference to 3. 5 minutes later Sam Mulvaney was unlucky again when he fired over the bar following a great run and pass by Harry Caton. With ten minutes to go Jacob Murray completed the win with a hard low shot that went through the keepers legs. Despite both Sam Pears and Jacob Murray keen to get hatricks the game ended without adding to the score sheet.
Man of the match goes to Arnie Dooner for a great disciplined performance.

Altofts 6 - 4 Rothwell Town

A game of two halves
Following what can only be described as a drubbing the week before, the CRL team aimed to bounce back away at Altofs. Whilst the first half was an improvement on the previous week the team turned around 3 nil down at half time and struggling to get in to the game. The second half was like watching another team as Rothwell really got stuck in and went after Altofs, pulling 2 goals back to make it 3-2 with goals from Lewis and Charles, before Altofs scored again. Rothwell came back again as the whole team chased and tackled everything, with the score at 5 – 4 to Altofs in the closing minutes. Rothwell made one last attack to get the equaliser and a great pass from Dan found Harry in the box but he was thwarted by a fine stop from the Altofs keeper.
Altofs added one more in the closing minutes to make it 6 - 4. Much improved performance all round with the whole team getting the share of the MOM. Special mentions go to Euan for some surging runs out of defence, Charles for his hat trick and George who played virtually the whole of the second half carrying an ankle injury. Well done for not giving in and showing a great
attitude working as a team which is sure to get us a few more wins

The Winning Habit

Rothwell Town 5 Chapeltown 2

The Winning Habit
After a win in the cup the previous week confidence was
high, against an unknown Chapletown side. Rothwell got off to a good start and
tried to pass the ball around in the early stages, with Sam Pears seeing a good
shot just missing the left hand post. Chapeltown were awarded a corner after a
rare attack and good delivery was dealt with well by Harrison Jones who got a
hand to it and cleared it from the goal area. The ball was quickly cleared up
field and an intelligent ball from Harry Caton found Kaden Sharlotte bursting
free through the middle of the away defence. Kaden controlled well and calmly
put the ball past the keeper.
More Rothwell attacks put pressure on the Chapeltown goal
and just 2 minutes after the first goal Town doubled their lead. Kai Wheeler on,
his return from a broken arm, delivered a great corner, which was met sweetly by
Arnie Dooner. Rothwell continued to push forward and look for more goals. Liam
King drilled a free kick into the area which Sam Mulvaney was unlucky not to
convert at the far post. An inspired substitution with 10 minutes of the first
half left to run paid dividends when Jacob Murray was released after by Arnie Dooner
who won the ball in midfield. Jacob controlled the ball well and held off a
strong challenge, calmly firing the ball into the roof of the net.

The home team started the 2nd half full of
confidence but soon found out that too much confidence and not enough
concentration can be bad combination. After a comfortable first half where the
away team hardly threatened, two goals in the first 5 minutes brought the game
firmly back into their grasp. Rothwell then settled back into the game and started
to press again. Sam Mulvaney was on hand to capitalise after a goal keeper
error to score his 4th goal in 2 games. Sam Pears completed the win on 22 minutes
following in a Jacob Murray shot which was only partially stopped by the
keeper.

Harry Caton took the man of the match award for a great
battling performance, and some great passing.

Victory in the Cup

A first win of the season came in the cup against Guiesley.
Rothwell started brightly and looked to keep hold of the ball. The direction of the play in the early stages was all towards the visitors goal, and on the rare occasions they broke away the defence coped well, and calmly played the ball out of defence through the midfield. The break through came after 10 minutes when more good work by Harry Caton through the middle resulted in a mishit clearance being vooleyed back into the goal by Sam Mulvaney. Rothwell were 2 up shortly after when Arnie Dooner should his usual tenacity and broke through midfield capitilising on a defence error and finishing sweetley from just inside the area. Guiesley brought the game back into their grasp after a rare mix up at the back allowed their striker to put the ball into an open net. Rothwell were soon back in charge after Sam Pears battled to win the ball in the area and poked the ball home from close range. Guisely started to get back into the game and had a period of possesion which saw them win a number of corners, which thretened to close the gap again. In fact it was Rothwell who went further ahead after the visiting goal keeper failed to hold a Liam King shot, and Sam Mulvaney follow in to double his tally. Shortly after a lack of marking and a some ball watching allowed the away team to break through and score. A corner late on for Rothwell was delivered in by Jacob Bues and after bouncing of one defender Harry Caton headed home to make the half time score 5 - 2

Confidence was high at the start of the second half and another goal came early after good work on the left by Kaden Sharlotte allowed Liam King to score towns 6th from close range. The front two continued to work hard pulling the defenders wide allowing the midfield to attack through the middle, Kaden had a number of opportunities and it was only the bravery of the keeper that kept the score down. Guiesley pressed forward and a number of times but the defence held tight debutant Sam Van Den Briele gave a solid and disciplined performance and great sliding tackles from Harrison Jones out wide and Michael Throp on the touch line after the striker had thought he had got the better of him, kept Rothwell safely in front. Guiesley went on to score a final consolation after more poor marking, but the result was already in the bag.

A well deserved win and the coaches were pleased to see the players looking to keep hold of the ball and put into practise what was done in training. More of the same next, and we start on charge up the league.
