Rothwell Town 2 - 6 Guiseley 25-9-11 - Match Report

Sams Pair Not Enough to Progress in Cup
A tough cup draw saw Rothwell Town facing a strong Guiseley team who currently sit 3rd in the 1st division. Town matched their opponents in the opening 15 minutes and could have gone ahead through a Harry Caton volley that narrowly missed the near post from a great Jacob Bues corner. Town continued to press with the Guiseley goal seemingly living a charnmed life. Two goals in the final 10 minutes of the first half flattered the visitors at half time.
The second half started with Guiseley looking sharper and a third goal looked to have beaten Town, until Sam Pears delivered a thunderous header from another great Jacob Bues corner. At 3 - 1 and with Rothwell pressing confidence was high, but another two quick goals put the game out of reach. There was some controversy over the goals with a number of supporters and coaches looking for an offside flag. Sam Pears got his double after another sustained period of pressure in the Guiseley half but luck seemed to have deserted the time and despite the best period of football coming from Rothwell Town the next & final goal was for the visitors.

A good performance against a strong team and with a little more luck and a lot more hard work the seasons first win is just around the corner. To misquote a great sportsman "The harder I train the luckier I get" Gary Player

Sam Mulvaney picked up the man of the match for his great work in an unaccustomed position.

Rothwell T 3 - 5 Fryston Spartons 25-9-11 Match Report

If the wind doesn't blow take up the oars!

Once again a fine effort from the CR boys up against a solid Spartons outfit. A  patched up team, after the late withdrawal of a missed Ryan, showed a now typical fighting spirit right until the end. Another robust reaction from the lads at the back in the face of a formidable Fryston forward line. Midfield continue to explore their roles and worked tirelessly for the cause by battling for tackles, coming to meet the ball and linking the play from back to front. Special mention must go to both the remarkable talent of Harry, rewarded with an exceptional goal and the irrepressible Alex demonstrating incredible energy and endeavour!  The two strikers continue to develop their trade and will undoubtedly be able to add a few tools to the box following this performance.

"I am building a fire, and every day I train, I add more fuel. At just the right moment, I light the match." (Mia Hamm)

Wakefield Jets Vs Rothwell Town match reveiw

Match report v Wakefield Jets away

The finest team effort to date (over 2 seasons) with clear commitment  from every player on the park! First to the ball from front to back and praise to the effort of both strikers (Charles & Seamus) who closed down the defence and keeper at every opportunity. Midfield beginning to flourish by fighting for the ball and playing a passing game through some tough challenges as well as getting back to assist the defenders.
Extra praise must go the back four of Euan, Rhys, Dom and Daniel. A finer unit would not be seen this side of Italy with the flying sweeper Dan getting 3 if we include a header deflected into the net by the Jets last man....a moment that was applauded, acknowledged and appreciated by all who know how he likes to play the ball at his feet! "If God had wanted us to play football in the clouds he'd of put grass up there" (Clough), "If we don't get our head on the ball we'll never have our head in the clouds" (O'Loan). Man of the match is Rob for a clean sheet and excellent command of his area. Special mention must also go to the youngest members of the squad who stepped up, turned on and tuned in!

The bar has now been raised so same again next week boys and check back in for more words of wisdom from the coach with a quote!

Final Score Jets 0 Rothwell Town 7

Hunslet Vs Rothwell Town - Match Report

Our Garforth league team started their season off away at Hunslet and after a tight opening were in front inside the first 15 minutes. A ball played in behind the Hunslet defence was chased down by Liam King who beat the on coming keeper to it and managed to steer it around him to roll it into the net. Hunslet pressed and were stronger in midfield. The Rothwell defence were under pressure but were coping well Kai Wheeler impressing and Harrison Jones in great form claiming the ball well on a number of occasions in the goal. The equaliser from Hunslet came from a long ball after a throw in deep in their own half. As halftime approached Rothwell were awarded a free kick 5 yards out of the Hunslet area. Liam stepped up and delivered a great shot that looked like a goal until the Hunslet keeper brilliantly turned away.

The second half started in the same way with Hunslet holding possession for longer and despite a number of good stops from Harrison Hunslet got 2 more goals making it 3 - 1. Rothwell started to apply more pressure and a good bursting run from Sam Pears caused panic in the Hunslet defence. Kaden Sharlotte battled well in the midfield and won the ball and released Liam king on the left hand side. A great first time ball from Liam switched the play to Sam Mulvaney deep on the right who controlled well and delivered an excellent low cross that was met by Liam, who had continued his run, and fired into the goal. At 3 -2 and with less than 5 minutes left Rothwells hope of a late equaliser were dashed when a long clearence from Hunslet changed defence into attack and the Rothwell defence were beaten making the final score 4 - 2.

Man of the Match goes to Kai Wheeler for his performance at left back.
