Rothwell Town 2 - 6 Guiseley 25-9-11 - Match Report

Sams Pair Not Enough to Progress in Cup
A tough cup draw saw Rothwell Town facing a strong Guiseley team who currently sit 3rd in the 1st division. Town matched their opponents in the opening 15 minutes and could have gone ahead through a Harry Caton volley that narrowly missed the near post from a great Jacob Bues corner. Town continued to press with the Guiseley goal seemingly living a charnmed life. Two goals in the final 10 minutes of the first half flattered the visitors at half time.
The second half started with Guiseley looking sharper and a third goal looked to have beaten Town, until Sam Pears delivered a thunderous header from another great Jacob Bues corner. At 3 - 1 and with Rothwell pressing confidence was high, but another two quick goals put the game out of reach. There was some controversy over the goals with a number of supporters and coaches looking for an offside flag. Sam Pears got his double after another sustained period of pressure in the Guiseley half but luck seemed to have deserted the time and despite the best period of football coming from Rothwell Town the next & final goal was for the visitors.

A good performance against a strong team and with a little more luck and a lot more hard work the seasons first win is just around the corner. To misquote a great sportsman "The harder I train the luckier I get" Gary Player

Sam Mulvaney picked up the man of the match for his great work in an unaccustomed position.
