Match Report Vs Hemsworth 8 - 0

A hurricane howls through Hemsworth as Town throw down the oars and sail away with the wind!

A fine footballing effort today across the squad heralding a glorious début for George. Maximum commitment saw maximum gain as the boys had a rare opportunity to push for their places with the advent of an
ability to use substitutions. What was asked was given with heads and hearts as Town took the game to the opposition. The ball was won and pushed forward with a flurry of intelligent passes that ripped the life out of hearty Hemsworth eleven. Attacking play was always followed up and tracking back became less of an issue as midfield begin to realise their potential!

Performance levels were high right through the team but special mention must go Rhys, Harry, Ryan and Dan who all demonstrated individual flair and ability at key moments in the game. Charles for a couple
of brave headers and Seamus showing a stoic approach to defensive duties. M O M goes to Dom for a hard won hat-trick!

Dig in to win, head the ball to avoid a fall and stand on top of ya man to find a fan!

Remember the TEAM is the only scheme to achieve your dream!

Match Report - Rothwell Town Vs Royston Dynamos

Going down fighting!

Rothwell Town 2 Royston Dynamos 5

Rothwell kicked off with only 10 men after Royston where
unwilling to budge over an additional player from the Garforth team. Playing
into the wind half time came with a score of 3-1. A fine goal again from Harry
was the only reward for a really good half in which Rothwell worked really hard
despite having a man less. The second half was bound to catch up on the 10 men
but that was not the case as Rothwell were the better team, playing most of the
football in Roystons half. Royston got 2 break away goals but Rothwell never
gave up and got a goal back through Ryan who had a great second half.

Man of the match picked by the lads was Ryan. However, it
was fair to say that it was a great team effort with every player really doing
everything asked of them.

Thanks from Colin and Charlie for all your had work and
for never giving in.

A Bad Dad at the Office

Rothwell Town 2 Ardsley 8

"Ever tried? Ever failed? Try again. Fail again. Fail better!" (Beckett)
Match Report
Town slipped to their second defeat of the season against a good Ardsley team who had only been beaten once this season. A very close first half saw Ardsley shade it 3-2 despite 2 fantastic strikes from Dom, one goal straight from the kick off. The second half proved very one sided but only after a couple of good saves from the Ardsley keeper. They never looked back after a couple of goals, going on to stretch their lead. Not once did anybody give in, which shows a great attitude.
Managers Reveiw (Colins unique insight)
The wind died and we lost the oars on Sunday but through the mist of the intervening days we will attempt to whip up a storm for the next game against Royston and revisit the early promise as evidenced by the
purple patch of those free scoring season entry games!

Our heads will not drop but will come to meet the ball in every area of the park, positionally we will mark out and guard individual territories like the dogs of war! We will all work as impenetrable but incisive units from defence to midfield to attack! Our bodies will become battering rams that neither ball nor man can pass through! Do this and we WILL bounce back and once again taste the life affirming essence of victory or honest effort.

'Build up your weaknesses until they become your strengths'
(Rockne)

'Always do what you're afraid to do' (Emerson)...'but
only under supervison' (O'Loan)

MOM goes to Dom for a fine first goal from just outside
the box and unstinting effort for the full 60!

Garforth Rangers 4 - 1 Rothwell Town

Ray Charles found alive and well and reffing in Garforth

Town started the match against Garforth Rangers looking for their first win of the season. Despite kicking up the slope and against the wind the match was tight and keenly contested. Rothwell struggled to clear their lines against the wind and up the slope but the defensive partnership held well and were supported strongly by Harry Caton & Jacob Bues. Sam Mulvaney playing at left back got into advanced positions a number of times to trouble the Garforth defence and force a good number of corners. Harry Caton hit a thunderous half volley from outside the area following one of the corners, but his shot didn’t make it through crowd to trouble the net.

Garforth got the breakthrough with 15 minutes on the clock when a long ball from the keeper fooled everyone and was chased down by the Rangers attacker and steered past an on rushing Jacob in goal. Just minute’s later Town were awarded a free kick just outside the area which Liam King stepped up to take and despite hitting it well the Garforth wall did its job. 5 minutes later the game got turned on a contentious decision from the referee who awarded a penalty to the home team after the ball bounced up from Jacob Bues foot and brushed his hand. Further controversy followed when the penalty was taken and hit straight at Jacob Murray who held onto it, but the referee decided that the players had encroached and ordered a re take, which this time was hit well and the score was 2-0. The Town boys were visible annoyed and tried to steady themselves, but another long ball was chased down and despite Jacob Murray claiming the ball bravely the Garforth striker who was not flagged offside challenged heavily and the ball squirmed into the net and Jacob was left on the floor clutching an injured foot. Confusion then followed when the referee appeared not to give the goal after checking the keepers fitness. Players coaches and spectators were still unsure if the ‘goal’ stood until the referee was asked and he confirmed it was a goal. At half time the 3-0 score line flattered the home team and said as much about the refereeing performance as it did about the football played.

Rothwell responded brightly in the second half and using the advantage of the slope to put pressure on the defence. Liam appeared to have beaten the offside trap on a few occasions only for the referee to blow his whistle. At the other end the linesman flag was ignored as Garforth broke forward but again the ever increasing defensive partnership of Michael and Oliver managed to stop the attack from threatening. Town got back into the game when a goal mouth scramble ended with the ball in the net, Liam King once again had a hand in the finish. Nearing the end of the match Rothwell pushed forward to try and get back in the game and despite a number of good efforts and some great runs from Arnie on the left & Liam on the right, Town couldn’t increase there goal count and were hit with a sucker punch to make the final score 4-1.

How big was that Pitch!!!

After tasting defeat for the first time last week at the hands of a good Fryston team, Rothwell bounced back with a hard fought draw.

The captains' role was taken up by Euan this week and his commitment was 1st class with some great runs out of defence. Racing into a 2-0 lead with a fine free kick from Dan followed by a great finish from a corner by Rhys which was his first goal in Rothwell colours.

Wee Thorpe began to find their feet and a speculative long range effort that Robert could do nothing about brought them back into the game. However, that was swiftly followed by the goal of the game in which Ryan dribbled and switched feet to fire into the corner for a great solo goal.

The size of pitch and the lack of substitutes really made the second half tough going. Despite a fantastic effort by the defence, Lewis, Robert, Euan, Rhys and Dom Wrenthorpe managed to pull 2 goals back with the equaliser coming with only a minute to go.

Man of the match goes to Lewis burrows who stuck to his position, marked well and did everything asked of him by his team and coaches, well done. Lewis, Colin owes you a bag of sweets!

Home match next week, 3 points is the target.

Rothwell Spirit fails to keep Wolves from the Door

Rothwells first league game at home started brightly with the central midfield pairing of Caton & Dooner working hard to close the opposing players down. With Walker & Throp working well together at the back the goal was rarely threatened inside the first 20 minutes. A series of corners put pressure on the Wolves goal but the goal never cam and after a goal mouth scramble at the other end Rothwell went 1 - 0 down. The heads of the boys stayed up and right from the re-start they pressed forward with some good passing and great movement off the ball. Liams movement upfront impressed and created space which was spotted by Kaden who played a ball into the area for Sam Mulvaney to run onto and fire a left footed shot at a tight angle into the roof of the goal. Despite more pressure the half ended 1 - 1.
The second half started with the Wolves on top and a couple of lapses in concentration almost cost Rothwell dearly, but the score remianed equal until a Wolves corner was fired in a met with a good header. A dubious freekick, not long after turned a tight game into 3 - 1 to the visotors.  Rothwell continued to play quick passing football and Arnie, Jacob & Liam combined a number of times to trouble the defence and it was Liam who was in the right place to take a quick shot that was deflected onto the post which he followed up smartly and headed into an open goal. Spirits were high and despite more good attacking play the final whistle came before the next goal.

Man of the match goes to Arnie Dooner for his persistance at the back and his penetrating runs at the opposition defence.

A strong performance which should be taken into next weeks match against Garforth

Special mention must go to Kev Mulvaney for his brilliant ball stopping skills which saved Karen Caton from getting 'one in the face'. Kev showed he had good safe hands in fact they were that safe I'd trust you with "CHINA IN YOUR HANDS"
